Upcoming interview: Heidi Sormaz Ph.D. Week of 03_06_06

Heidi teaches yoga as a way for students to move through the emotional walls and habits which keep them stuck in their bodies and lives. She emphasizes breathing into the areas of the body that tend to be neglected, creating an intensely mindful and dynamic class.

Heidi is the owner and director of Fresh Yoga studio in New Haven, Connecticut. She has studied Yoga for 10 years and taught for 6. Her primary yoga teacher and influence is Ana Forrest. Heidi completed Basic and Advanced Forrest Yoga teacher trainings. She assists Ana in her national workshops and is currently working with Ana on a teacher mentoring program for Fresh Yoga. Heidi has also studied Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga. In addition, Heidi has extensive training in the martial art Taijiquan and the internal art Qigong. She is a senior student of Master Steven Bennett and teaches Taijiquan and Qigong at Yale University.

Heidi received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Psychology from Yale University. She is an expert on the influence of arousal and attention on performance, how anxiety affects thinking, stress management, and performance in pressure situations. She has been an educator, speaker, and corporate trainer with over 10 years experience in designing and leading seminars on stress management, meditation, and educator training. HDR Press published her book Performing Under Pressure and Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine recently published her article “Meditation can Reduce Habitual Responding.” In addition, she is currently working on a book with Taiji Master Steven Bennett.heidi_reverse_warrior.jpg
